How to become a AEMT in Utah
- 1. Meet the prerequisites. You'll generally need a current EMT certification in good standing.
- 2. Finish an approved program. Expect roughly 200–400 hours beyond EMT of lecture, lab, and field/clinical time at a Utah-approved training center.
- 3. Pass the cognitive exam. Sit the NREMT computer-adaptive AEMT cognitive exam at a Pearson VUE test center.
- 4. Pass the skills exam. NREMT or Utah BEMS-approved site.
- 5. Apply for state certification. Submit your application to the Utah Bureau of EMS and Preparedness, then recertify every 2 years.
AEMT scope of practice in Utah
A AEMT in Utah typically works with IV and IO access, fluid resuscitation, supraglottic airways, blood glucose monitoring, and an expanded medication list including dextrose, naloxone, and nitrous oxide in some systems.
