Week 1

Airway, respiration & ventilation

  • Review airway anatomy and normal respiratory physiology

  • Oxygen delivery devices and flow rates (NC, NRB, BVM, CPAP)

  • Pulse oximetry and capnography interpretation basics

Week 2

Cardiology & medical emergencies

  • ACS presentation, aspirin/nitro indications and contraindications
  • CHF vs COPD differentiation
  • Cardiac arrest sequence, AED use, CPR quality metrics
  • Stroke scales and time-critical stroke care
  • Diabetic emergencies: hypo vs hyperglycemia
  • Seizures, syncope, and altered mental status differentials
  • Anaphylaxis vs allergic reaction and epinephrine dosing
  • Toxicology basics: opioids, stimulants, organophosphates, CO

Week 3

Trauma & shock

  • Scene size-up, MOI, and primary assessment order
  • DCAP-BTLS secondary assessment sequence
  • Hemorrhage control: pressure, tourniquet, wound packing
  • Shock types: hypovolemic, cardiogenic, distributive, obstructive
  • Head, spine, chest, and abdominal trauma red flags
  • Burns: TBSA, depth, and Rule of Nines
  • Musculoskeletal injuries, splinting, and traction
  • Trauma triage criteria and transport decisions
  • Take 50 practice questions on trauma; review every rationale

Week 4

OB, peds, operations & full-length exams

  • Normal delivery steps and complications (prolapsed cord, breech)
  • Neonatal resuscitation and APGAR scoring
  • Pediatric assessment triangle and pediatric vital ranges
  • Geriatric assessment differences and polypharmacy
  • Behavioral emergencies and restraint safety
  • EMS operations: scene safety, MCI/START triage, HazMat zones
  • Medical-legal: consent, refusal, HIPAA, documentation
  • Take a full-length timed mock exam (70–120 questions)
  • Review every missed question and re-drill your two weakest topics

Exam week

Final countdown

  • Confirm your test date, time, and testing center address
  • Print your authorization to test (ATT) and check your ID requirements
  • Two full-length timed practice exams, no notes
  • Re-read rationales for every question you missed all month
  • Light review only the day before — no cramming
  • Sleep 7–8 hours the two nights before the exam
  • Eat a real meal, arrive 30 minutes early, leave notes in the car
