START/JumpSTART triage
START (adults): Ambulatory → Green. Then check RPM — Respirations, Perfusion, Mental status. JumpSTART for pediatrics adds pediatric-specific vitals.
Consent
Expressed for competent adults. Implied for unconscious. Minors need parental consent except for emancipated minors or emergencies.
Scene safety
The correct answer to almost every 'you arrive on scene and see X' question involves ensuring scene safety first. If it's not safe, don't enter.
Frequently asked
- What triage color gets treated first?
- Red (immediate) patients are treated and transported first. Yellow (delayed) next. Green (walking wounded) and Black (deceased/expectant) after.
