NREMT Pass Rates in 2026: What the Numbers Actually Mean
Current NREMT first-attempt pass rates for EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic candidates, and what separates the students who pass from those who retake.

The NREMT publishes cumulative pass-rate data every year. For 2026, first-attempt pass rates hover around 70% for EMT candidates, 65% for AEMT, and just under 75% for Paramedic candidates from accredited programs. Cumulative (all-attempt) pass rates climb higher, but the first-attempt number is what programs and employers watch.
Why first-attempt matters
Every failed attempt adds a 15-day cooldown, a $104 fee, and a required 24 hours of remediation after the third fail. Miss it three times and you must submit official refresher documentation before the next attempt.
What predicts a first-attempt pass

- Consistent scores of 78%+ on full-length mock exams in the two weeks before test day

- A sleep schedule aligned with the test-day appointment time
