NREMT Exam Myths, Debunked
The most common myths about the NREMT — from the 'trick questions' rumor to the '75 questions means you passed' folklore.

Every EMT class trades the same rumors about the NREMT. Most are wrong, and believing them changes how you study — usually for the worse.
Myth 1: If it shuts off at 75 you passed
The exam ends when the CAT engine is 95% confident of your ability — pass OR fail. Short exam means the algorithm decided quickly, in either direction. Don't celebrate or mourn the length.
Myth 2: The NREMT uses trick questions
There are no trick questions. There are questions that test whether you can rank interventions by urgency and safety. If two answers look right, one is more correct in that specific scenario.
Myth 3: Always pick the most aggressive intervention
The NREMT tests scope, safety, and sequence. The right answer is often the least invasive intervention that solves the immediate threat — BLS before ALS, airway before drugs.
Myth 4: You can't retake it for 6 months
You can retest after 15 days, up to three times. Only after three failures do you need remediation before attempt four.
